The pancreas is an organ in the abdomen that produces enzymes and hormones, including insulin. Pancreatic cancer generally starts in the ducts of the pancreas and is referred to as an adenocarcinoma. In 2014, 2,292 people contracted pancreatic cancer, 85% of whom were over the age of 60. In many cases pancreatic cancer is only detected at a late stage and the prognosis is extremely poor.
