Liver cancer describes a situation in which a malignant tumour develops primarily in the liver. It is an uncommon form of cancer in the Western world. However, it is not uncommon for other tumours to spread to the liver (secondary liver cancer). In many cases the initial symptoms of liver cancer do not appear until a late stage. The prognosis depends on the stage of the disease, but is generally not good.
